Connecting with your Inner Spirit: Gateway to the Universe
Have you ever wondered how connecting with your inner spirit might help you manifest more in your life?
The connection you cultivate with your inner spirit is the freeway to the life of your dreams so, does that mean we can pray about it and get whatever we want?
Of Course Not!
But it does mean that as we remember how to listen and learn from our inner spirit, we can get in alignment with our most authentic self and the steps that will make our dreams become a reality.
So, what even IS “Spirit”?
We have a lot of different names for the same idea in our societies. We might call Spirit – Jesus, God, Buddha, the Universe, Krishna, Jehovah, etc.
It doesn’t matter so much WHAT we call spirit as it does that we take time to connect.
My background is Christianity, and in Christianity, we believe that we could get saved by praying and asking Jesus to come to live in our hearts.
In my mind, that means Jesus lives INSIDE of me, which makes me capable of everything that Jesus (who lives in me) is capable of.
So, what I’m talking about is not “new-agey” or anti-Christian. It’s right in line with what the Bible has always told us!
Here are three keys:
1. Get Intentional
Spirit is always there, but it won’t push its way into our lives. It won’t force us to take a particular path or make good choices. It’s there and always sharing its love and wisdom with us, but we have to pay attention to reap the benefits. So, get intentional about your desire to connect and communicate with Spirit. Think about how you have communed with Spirit in the past, how your ancestors connected. How do your current friends and family deepen their relationship to Spirit? Understand that just because you learned to do it one way as a young person, that is not the only way. If it still fits for you, great. If not, that’s okay too. Maybe you wake up 10 minutes early each day to include a meditation time or go to the mountains or ocean once a week to pray and write. There are millions of ways to connect to Spirit; you just need to think about and decide which methods are suitable for you. Then, make adjustments, plan, and organize what you need to make time and space for intentional connection.
2. Get Quiet
I sometimes describe Spirit as the “Quietest Voice” in my head. It’s the persistent whisper in the back of my mind that all the other shouting voices are trying to drown out. It’s often telling me to “Do the hard thing.” Sometimes it’s screaming at me, “STOP AND REST,” like the time I went to the hospital for a week because I was dying of DKA. 🤷🏻♀️ Meditation is one of my favorite ways to get quiet (I recommend the Calm.com app), but there are many ways. Yoga, hiking, driving, gardening, working out – all ways one can quiet the mind so the Spirit can speak clearly.
3. Get Community
One of my favorite things about the Divine is its duality. That means truth can be false, false can be true, white can be black, and everything else. There is very little absolute truth in absolute truth except that we are love, and we are loved. The spiritual walk is very personal, and your relationship with God is between just you. HOWEVER!!!!! Your existence on this planet is not yours alone. It is in relation to EVERYTHING else that is also on this planet. We are solely responsible for our journey and inextricably connected to everyone and everything else. We must think about both our path and our role in the community and on the planet. One of the best ways to connect to your inner spirit is to communicate with other people who share your values and desires to produce good energy. You may find them in a church (as long as it honors your authentic self), a monastery, temple, friend group, family, etc. We are connected, and the Spirit is even stronger when we’re together.
I used to wonder, “Do I HAVE to go to church or formally meditate to hear Spirit?” The answer is Hell NO! 😜 Spirit can communicate with you at all times in ALL ways. The key is just learning how to hear and see the messages they send you.
Being intentional and quiet are the training grounds for walking around talking to Spirit all day long.
It’s funny because I had always wondered before how or why a person would ever choose to be a monk or a nun. It seemed so out there. But once I learned what being intentional and quiet could do for my ability to communicate with my inner spirit and how awesome it is to be at that level of communication regularly, I suddenly understood. Being present with the Divine is ecstasy, so to choose it as a lifestyle just makes sense. 🤷🏻♀️
Then again, I’m pretty connected to some of my more human desires, too, like wild sex with my husband and decadent vacations to tropical islands.
Sue Me, I’m Human! 😜
